Simona Halep Defeats Serena Williams To Claim First Wimbledon Title

Romanian Tennis player Simona Halep defeated Serena Williams in the 2019 Wimbledon finale by sweeping straight sets, denying Serena of her 24th grand slam title.

The win was the first Wimbledon title for Halep who previously held the number one ranking in the world (She’s held it twice). Halep made three unforced errors to Serena’s 26 in the 6-2, 6-2 defeat. At just 27 years old with plenty of accomplishments under her belt, Halep could possibly be Tennis’ next big star after defeating it’s current biggest star.

For Serena it’s the third consecutive time she’s lost on the biggest stage which is still impressive although it’s not what she’s aiming for. At 37 years old Williams is still playing as if she’s a 27 year old in her prime, with her last tournament title coming in 2017 when she won the Australian Open.
